OGEP

On The Ground Education Programme (OGEP) is a value-based initiative to improve current lymphoedema service provision across Wales.  The model centres on the value of dedicated community based clinical lymphoedema educators who worked directly with community nurses ‘on the ground’.  OGEP Practitioners provide one-to-one and group education upskilling community nurses in chronic oedema clinical practice in conjunction with a new “Wet Leg Care Pathway”. OGEP has identified that through education, reflection and a new care pathway, effective and efficient care can be delivered, improving patient outcomes.

Benefits of OGEP include:

  • Improved patient quality of life
  • Decreased community nurse visits allowing time back to care
  • Reduces the pollutant footprint through travel by fewer home visits
  • Decreased GP contacts
  • Decreased cellulitis episodes
  • Reduced admissions to hospitals
  • Improved knowledge for community nurses
  • Decreased dressing costs.
